Caring for Vulnerable Workers, PPA Site Bukit Asam Wins an Award from the Muara Enim Regency Prosecutor's Office

PPA won an award from the Muara Enim Regency Prosecutor's Office (Kejari) for its contribution to the Jaksa Peduli Pekerja Rentan programme.

The award was given based on the monitoring and evaluation of the Jaksa Peduli Pekerja Rentan programme. PPA Site BA has covered 300 residents of Lawang Kidul District, Muara Enim Regency, by providing BPJSTK cover for as long as PPA operates at Site Bukit Asam.

"Kontribusi CSR PPA Site BA dalam Program Jaksa Peduli Pekerja Rentan adalah bentuk dukungan PPA terhadap program pemerintah yang dinilai berdampak positif dan nyata. Ini adalah salah satu bentuk kepedulian PPA terhadap masyarakat ekonomi lemah di lingkungan operasional PPA," said Hendra Syahputra, External Relations GA Leader of PPA Site Bukit Asam, after receiving the certificate.

The Jaksa Peduli Pekerja Rentan programme is a collaboration between the prosecutor's office and BPJS Ketenagakerjaan, through the CSR of companies in Muara Enim, to provide work accident and death insurance cover for informal sector workers in weak working and economic conditions in Muara Enim Regency — motorcycle taxi drivers, Quran teachers, mosque caretakers, casual day labourers and the like. The aim is to prevent a rise in poverty in Muara Enim Regency.

"Dengan terdaftar BPJS Ketenagakerjaan dapat membantu pekerja rentan/kurang mampu sebagai antisipasi risiko sosial ekonomi jika mengalami musibah kecelakaan kerja maupun dapat meringankan beban ahli waris jika terjadi musibah meninggal dunia," said Sonny Alonsye, Head of the BPJS TK Muara Enim branch, as reported by Enim Ekspres.

According to Kejari Rudi Iskandar, as reported by Enim Ekspres, over the programme's first year, out of 75 state-owned, regional-owned and private companies urged to contribute, only 7 companies — PPA Site BA among them — have so far taken part. To date 1,300 vulnerable workers have been registered as BPJSTK participants by those seven companies.

The programme, part of Muara Enim Regency's effort to improve the welfare of informal sector workers, provides fairly broad cover such as work accident insurance, benefits for families who lose a breadwinner, and disability benefits.
