Empowering Women and Tackling Child Stunting, PPA Site BIB's CSR Programme Wins an Award from Kemendesa PDTT

PT Putra Perkasa Abadi (PPA) received an award from the Ministry of Villages, Development of Disadvantaged Regions and Transmigration (Kemendes PDTT). The award was given at the Social Responsibility (CSR) and Sustainable Village Development (PDB) Awards 2024, held at The Westin Jakarta on Tuesday (07/05).

The event is held to offer recognition and motivation and to spread mentoring programmes to other state-owned and private companies. Assessment was carried out by Kemendes PDTT together with the Indonesian Social Sustainability Forum (ISSF), covering documents, presentations and other criteria, across 93 companies that had run mentoring or support programmes, business cooperation or CSR activities.

Also present at the event were Vice President Ma'ruf Amin, Minister of Villages PDTT Halim Iskandar, ISSF Chairman Sudarmanto, and PPA Division Head Operational Koko Prayitno.

Saya harap penghargaan ini dapat memacu dunia usaha untuk menjadikan CSR sebagai program prioritas sejalan dengan proses bisnisnya. Mari kita bersama-sama berkomitmen dan berkolaborasi untuk menggerakkan ekonomi pedesaan melalui pemberdayaan berbasis kearifan lokal agar memiliki ketahanan sosial ekonomi dan lingkungan," said Vice President Maruf Amin in his opening remarks.

At the event PPA Site BIB received 2 Silver awards, for the CSR programmes "Balita Sehat Bebas Stunting" and "UMKM Semangat, Ekonomi Meningkat", judged to have successfully helped communities around the mine site.

PPA Site BIB's CSR work brought the stunting rate among under-fives in 8 villages of Tanah Bumbu Regency down from 16.1% to 12%, exceeding the government target of 14% for the 2022–2023 period.

In this programme, PPA Site BIB's CSR team worked together with the local government, the Health Office, the local community health centre and integrated health post, and paediatricians at the regional hospital. The team travelled around to map cases, raise awareness of stunting, teach the preparation of highly nutritious complementary foods, run parenting training, and distribute supplementary food for under-fives and pregnant women.

The UMKM Semangat, Ekonomi Meningkat programme, meanwhile, runs in Mangkalapi village, Teluk Kepayang district, within the company's ring 1 area, empowering women to make a range of bakery goods and dry snacks. Starting with 4 members, Mangkalapi Bakery now has 10 members, with 2023 income up by more than 300% to Rp 319,019,500 compared with Rp 87,932,000 in 2022.
