Opening 2025 with an Environmental Care Movement, PPA Wins the Indonesia Green Awards

PPA won a National Environmental award in the Developing Biodiversity category for its Bamboo Planting Programme as an effort to preserve the river in Mangkupum Village, Tabalong Regency.

The award was presented to PPA through PPA Site Adaro HCGA Division Head Sunaryo at the Indonesia Green Awards (IGA) 2025, held at Hotel Indonesia Kempinski, Jakarta on Wednesday (15/1/2025).

PPA received the award after it worked with Tabalong Regency, the Environment Office and Muara Uya District to plant 1,080 bamboo trees along the banks of the Mangkupum river in Kupang Nunding Village, Muara Uya District, Tabalong Regency between August and October 2024.

Bamboo was chosen because it grows faster than timber trees. Bamboo is also judged to carry various other economic values that communities can use to advance their local economy. The planting of these 1,080 bamboo trees was carried out because the Mangkupum River has a high level of vulnerability to land degradation and erosion — even though the Mangkupum River plays a very important role for communities in Muara Uya District who depend on farming for their livelihood. The programme is also an effort to restore critical land that can serve as a medium for production and water management.

At the event, the Secretary of Muara Uya District, Johransyah, expressed his appreciation to PPA CSR.

"Kami berterima kasih kepada CSR PPA yang telah melaksanakan CSR kepada Desa Kupang Nunding dalam hal penanaman bambu di sungai Mangkupum. Mudah-mudahan ini bermanfaat bagi semua warga Kupang Nunding dan warga Tabalong," said Johransyah.
