PPA Expedition Team Completes its First Mission, the Island Peak Summit in the Himalayas

The Indonesian flag and the flag of PT Putra Perkasa Abadi (PPA) finally fly on the summit of Island Peak (6,189 masl) after the PPA Himalaya Expedition Team, taking the route from Everest Basecamp, reached the top of Island Peak in the Himalayas, Nepal, on Saturday (1/10/2022). The achievement makes PPA the first mining contractor in Asia to send an expedition team to the summit of Island Peak.

Three climbers from PPA — Yuzzri Angga Karunia, Yuli Adi Gunawan and Andi Nugroho — reached the summit, part of the PPA Himalaya Expedition, at around 08:30 local time.

To reach the summit from Island Peak Base Camp, the PPA Expedition Team climbed through snow-covered terrain and scaled a 425-metre ice wall at an angle of 80°–90°. They also had to keep coordinating with the guide who had escorted them throughout the climb.

"Syukur Alhamdulillah, kami telah berhasil mencapai summit Island Peak dalam keadaan sehat, terimakasih atas dukungan dan doanya" said Andi Nugroho, leader of the PPA expedition team.

The PPA Himalaya Expedition, running from 17 September to 19 October 2022, will climb two mountains: Island Peak (6,189 masl) and Mera Peak (6,476 masl). The expedition is an expression of the company's vision and mission — the company's vision for 2023 being to become the second-largest mining contractor in Indonesia — and at the same time reflects PPA's commitment to building the character and competence of outstanding, capable mining human resources.

PPA President Director Christianto Setyo congratulated the PPA Expedition Team 2002 on completing its first mission, standing on the summit of Island Peak. "Ini sebuah pencapaian untuk PPA dengan keberhasilan oleh Tim Ekspedisi PPA 2022 mencapai summit Island Peak dengan sehat dan selamat, dimana kami memperhatikan kekuatan fisik, mental dan Kerjasama tim untuk mencapai tujuan, maka keberhasilan misi pertama ini menjadi pembuktian yang nyata dan konkret sesuai dengan kenyataan di lapangan", said Christianto Setyo.

Next, the PPA expedition team will continue on to Mera Peak, expected to reach the Mera Peak summit on 13 October.
