Quick to Respond, PPA Sends its ERT to the Sukabumi Disaster Area

The PPA ERT was deployed once again to a disaster area in Indonesia. This time the team went straight to the site of the flash floods and landslides that struck 33 points across Sukabumi Regency over two days, 3–4 December, triggered by the overflowing of the Cikaso river during extreme weather. The Sukabumi BPBD recorded landslides at 13 points, flooding at 9 points, strong winds at seven points and land movement at four points, across 22 districts in Sukabumi.

According to the Sukabumi Regency BPBD, as of 14 December 2024 around 23,318 people had been affected in total, with at least 10 residents killed and 2 still missing. The disaster left 1,901 houses severely damaged, 1,944 houses moderately damaged, 2,150 houses lightly damaged and a further 658 houses under threat. The BNPB also extended the emergency response period to 17 December 2024.

Under the coordination of ESDM Siaga Bencana, the PPA ERT arrived with 5 personnel covering coordination, paramedic, logistics and rescue roles. The team brought 2 vehicles, responder bags, a medicine box, a support equipment set, water rescue equipment and mountaineering equipment.

The team set up a health post, provided trauma healing and disaster education, and distributed a wide range of medicines and food supplies to affected victims in villages that had not yet been reached.
